I personally know how difficult it is to be a Christian and come face-to-face with Paleo eating, so it was so refreshing for me to read this guest blog post from Alicia Wood a certified Holistic Health Coach from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. Much food for thought here on how to eat for health and well-being.
I was reading Chris Kressler’s newsletter the other day and he spoke of how he believes in Ancestral Nutrition and the Paleo Diet. That got me to thinking; I also believe in Ancestral Nutrition but from a very different perspective than he, from a Christian perspective.
The Paleo argument is that we evolved, started as meat eaters, then gradually developed agriculture, that agriculture is “modern” but we should be “primitive” and not eat grains. The Paleo Diet eschews grains. Chris Kressler says he feels better if he eats no grains.
Now, first of all, if you feel better when you eat no grains, then, by all means, eat no grains. I believe we are all bio-individual and if someone feels worse from eating grains, better when they don’t, then they should obey their body’s wisdom.

I received a message from someone asking me if I had noticed any improvement in my health since changing my diet, the answer is yes I have. But I also know how hard it is to not only take that step to change your diet but to keep on going when the chocolate or whatever it is you really like is calling your name. So I decided to create a video outlining 11 signs that I’ve noticed in myself which indicate that a change in diet may actually help relieve autoimmune symptoms.
It seems so unfair, over the last weeks PNH symptoms have flared up again and I have had to go back to the drawing board to try and pinpoint what may have triggered it off. I could put it down to all the stress of moving during the most frantic season of the year, things not working while the world was on holiday not to mention trying to stop the flu that’s trying to grip the country in a head lock trying to grip me too. I could, but I need to cover all bases here especially taking into consideration that it has also waxed and waned during this time.
So as part of my move into our new home I invested in some new bits and pieces to ramp up my healthy lifestyle gig. A pressure cooker to start making my bone broth in, some gelatin to heal the gut and liquid stevia so that I could wean myself off the sugar. I was good for the first week or so and then BANG!!!! Irritability, spasms, aches, tears, tantrums – OK I also cheated because when I feel bad I also eat rubbish – which I know has to stop – God help me please. But I have learnt enough about my body to be able to pick up what is and isn’t affecting me and begin to read how. Something was different and I prayed that it wouldn’t be the gelatine. I wouldn’t mind giving up the stevia, but the gelatin – I could use that to make all kind of wonderful things – plus it replaced the eggs which I can’t eat at the moment plus it was making my hair and nails grow. Two posts in a week – I know, but this has been on my mind and something I found out yesterday has encouraged me to pre-share some thoughts with you. (Please note this post contains affiliate links).
There’s a scripture that says “money answereth all things” (Ecclesiastes 10:19) in essence what this means is that money talks. But there’s a version of this saying that I much prefer, which says “money has an answer to all things” (CJB). Whilst money can and does talk, it is not the sole answer to all our problems.
What has this got to do with healing diets? A change in diet has helped me enormously. Last year I was suffering from what I thought was really bad anaemia, but it was actually adrenal exhaustion. I would wake up by 9am and be exhausted by 12 and need to sleep for at least an hour by 4pm. If I didn’t I would feel breathless, dizzy and faint. I tried iron supplements to no avail, before I realised that I had to drastically change my diet.
Since then there has been a 180 degree shift, I no longer feel exhausted and I don’t have to take a nap in the afternoon and I’m well on my way to having my adrenals restored to normal functioning. Continue reading Diet is an answer… why Eating Right encourages Healing.
According to Hebrew tradition on the Day of Trumpets (Yom Teruah) the righteous are written in the Book of Life, I think that it is very easy to see all references to life in the Bible as eternal spiritual life but I believe that we can and should also view life as our temporal life here on earth.
When God entered into covenant with those who had been led out of Egypt (mixed multitude of Israelites and non-Israelites) He laid two things before them: life and death, blessing and a curse. Yes, this life was linked to an eternal state but it was also linked to the quality of life that they would experience whilst on earth. The blessings included a number of things but in summary we would say that the blessings were of provision (fruitfulness) and security in all areas of their life.
There was only one thing that God requested of the Israelites in order to receive these manifold blessings, that one thing was obedience:
“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you today, by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. But if your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
Deuteronomy 30: 15-20

Health, healing, and wholeness – I find it strange how different Christians react to these words. For some these words cause a positive reaction to others negative, but whatever our stance we can not argue the fact that the Bible speaks about health, healing and wholeness. But what is healing and where does it come from?
I know that there are still many people who visit this blog searching to understand why they suffer from Cramp Fasciculation Syndrome a neurological immune disorder where the immune system attacks the nervous system causing pain, cramping and spasming in the muscles surrounding the peripheral nerves. It’s a horrible illness, but as I sat and looked over the stats for the last few days and saw that there didn’t seem to be a day when someone didn’t end up on my blog because of this disorder I realised something that I AM getting better! This is what sparked off this post, I wanted to share my experiences of what I feel is healing me. Continue reading Where does healing come from?
I can’t believe I’m coming into the fourth week of the cleanse, I should be happy but there are a couple of things that weigh me down at the moment. I have been in a lot of pain recently, yesterday I went to sleep in pain and today I woke up in pain, I’m at that point of scratching my head and wanting to pull my hair in frustration, why am I still feeling so bad? The issue is that this time last year I was in a much better state (physically) than I am now, and I know there are probably a number of reasons why this could be the case. Physically, I’ve not been as strict with myself on this cleanse as I ought to have been, the thought of doing this cleanse scared me so much that I changed a few things to make it more easy going this time around, I need to do this properly from now on. Secondly, I feel that the more understanding and knowledge God gives you, the more He challenges you to apply His truth to your life, maybe this is another part of His oh so intensive refining process because I am that bit more stronger in Him. I don’t know and that’s the killer. Continue reading Passover Cleanse update and step 4
This is the first (I hope) teaching and encouragement video on God’s desire to really heal His children, please feel free to share with others.
Blessings and shalom in Messiah
As the steps of my Passover Cleanse increase I inevitably begin to miss certain foods, but I am determined to find delicious and nutritious alternatives to those much-loved foods, so here’s my attempt at whole grain breakfast muffins.
- Ok, these really are a first attempt, the top ones have lavender and the bottom ones cocoa chunks (oh yes…and they came out slightly burnt).
The inspiration for these muffins really came about from my experience of using bananas and oats in many of my sweet treats… they go sooo well together. 🙂 For a really delicious breakfast why not try half a mashed ripe banana in your oats mmmm.

What can I say right now I’m happy!!! The sun is shining, the weather has become milder (people were not wearing coats at all yesterday!!!) and God has been ministering to me and my husband about the same things 🙂 If you notice the number of exclamation marks I’ve used so far you can probably tell that I’m feeling quite excited. Why am I so happy? Well, God has been very good to us (husband and I). Over the last month, my husband has been quite ill and had to go on a course of medication which made him even worse due to complications; in my trying to be gentle and sensitive way I have been ministering to him re the dangers of pharmaceuticals and he had been quite set against trying any herbal/natural alternatives but in a truly gentle and sensitive way God did His work and convicted my husband to not only try out herbal alternatives (which he now loves and can’t get enough of) but to also join me on my cleanse so now I have an encouragement buddy… so happy, thank you Abba!
Yesterday, I went to visit one of my favourite shops, it’s an organic herbal and whole food shop in Stoke Newington, London. While I was there I spoke to a lovely lady who helped me find some herbs for my husband and also something for myself which I will mention in a moment. During the course of the conversation I mentioned that I found it difficult to tolerate certain foods and she directed me towards a ‘neutral’ product i.e. one that had not been a by-product of a living organism that would suit me better, I really felt the need to cleanse out my digestive system after introducing all the whole grains into my diet so she gave me a pack of organic Bentonite Clay. She asked me about my health in general and I spoke to her about the condition that I had been diagnosed with (auto-immune condition) she then explained that nearly 70% of all chronic health conditions were treatable by 2 changes: lifestyle and diet. We spoke a bit about faith, she had guessed I was a Christian, I asked her how she knew, her reply was that she has always found it easier to talk to people who have faith (opportunity for evangelism here). Anyway, I digress.
The reason why I slotted this incident in is that God had been speaking to me about taking the next step on my healing journey. I’m doing the lifestyle thing now and have been ever since I first started listening to God’s voice in relation to finding my healing but now I feel that He wants me to tackle my diet.
