A few days ago on Facebook somebody posted this quote as their status:
It actually annoyed me because these are the type of quotes people put without sitting down to examine for themselves what faith according to scripture really means. Most of the stuff that we Christians have accepted as truth are just things passed down from generation to generation, from one teacher to another – it’s things that have been recycled and maybe even up-cycled without looking at the components or the underlying foundations.
A little while back I wrote a series on faith and how it differed from trust and belief, so it doesn’t make any sense to me how faith can’t be belief but it can be trust!
Too many times ‘faith’ is used as a weapon to attack people who don’t believe what they do or believe as they do, we hear it in the words “you don’t have enough faith”, or “you got to have/need more faith”. Without actually saying it they are accusing you of being inferior to them somehow and if only you could have what they have or do what they do everything in your life will be ab-fab, really? No.
The use of faith in this context hasn’t come because this is what the Bible actually teaches but because Christians have interpreted the scriptures through their own lens without letting it speak for themselves or going back to the original language. The Bible is not a Greek book, neither is it Roman, American or British, it’s Hebrew so why do we pay so much attention to all the stuff pumped out by modern day Christianity and take it as Gospel truth?
- The No 1 truth you need to know is that God gives faith not man.
- The No 2 truth you need to know is that Yahushua is the Author and Finisher of your Faith.
Taking these things into account the idea of getting more faith just doesn’t make any sense.
Don’t let anyone tell you that you don’t have enough faith because it’s like slapping God in the face – you’ve got the exact amount of faith that you need right now – no more and no less.
So because this topic is very close to my heart I decided to start a video teaching series on it, the first one is all about faith, what it is and isn’t. It’s about 20 minutes long.
I would love to hear your thoughts on it.
